WIELICZKA SALT MINE & WADOWICE (1 DAY)
The world-famous Underground Tourist Route in the Wieliczka Salt Mine was established at the turn of the eighteenth and nineteenth century. The route is 3 km long and is located 60 – 125 meters under the ground. During the two-hour tour you can admire a chapel full of sculptures, both historical and religious ones, an underground lake, discover several techniques of salt extraction and get to know some miners’ tales.
Birthplace of the Polish Pope – John Paul II. Tourists can visit the home of Karol Wojtyla, which has been turned into a biographic museum of the Pope. Nearby is situated the Church of the Offering of the Blessed Virgin Mary. There is also John Paul II Square with neo-classical buildings from the nineteenth-century. In 2006 a statue of the Polish Pope was set there.John Paul II visited Wadowice three times, in 1979, 1991 and in 1999.
